COLONOSCOPY:            A colonoscopy is an internal examination of the entire large intestine using a colonoscope, which is a flexbile tube with a small camera.  

EGD:          Esophagogastroduodenoscopy is the examination of the esophagus, stomach and upper duodenum with a small camera which is inserted down the patient's throat.  It is also called Upper Endoscopy or EGD for short.

CAPSULE ENDOSCOPY:          Capsule Endoscopy is a procedure performed when the patient swallows a camera pill.  The pill journeys through the intestine and takes multiple snapshots which are recorded on the recorder which the patient wears on a belt. The procedure lasts one day and the patient is able to continue with a normal lifestyle as long as the belt is not dislodged.  At the end of the day, the belt is removed and the Medical Assistant downloads all the data stored in the recorder onto the computer and the physician then analyzes the images.

ERCP:          Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), is the examination of the hepatobiliary system which includes the pacreatic ducts, hepatic ducts, common bile ducts, duoxinal, papilla, and gallbladder if present.  It is perfomed through a side-viewing flexible fiberoptic endoscope which is inserted into the patient's throat.
